What is Group Coaching

Group coaching is a helpful process that may be used in conjunction with individual coaching or on it’s own. It may be pursued by an individual or can be utilized by organizations.

Group Coaching Formats

Traditional Group Coaching: 

There are several formats of group coaching. Participants take turns sharing coaching time while extending support and accountability to one another around a pre-determined topic or goal or coaching themselves through a process while answering questions posed to the group. This structured setting allows participants to learn from each other’s successes or mistakes without having to experience them. This often includes homework assignments that can drive the topic of the next session. Because groups are often combined into like minded or task focused cohorts to focus on similar issues or growth initiatives, group coaching provides a cost effective way for organizations to maximize the benefits of coaching to a wider range of individuals. Sessions may be on location or by zoom conference.

Comparison Coaching 

Comparison coaching utilizes a special report of two individuals side by side DISC behavioral profiles to address similarities and differences in behavioral styles. These may be co-workers, supervisors and staff, or even family members seeking to gain understanding and experience a relational break through. Often times, just seeing each other’s profiles in relation to one’s own opens up avenues of communication that can lead to productive changes in maneuvering the relationship. It can be helpful to:

  • Strengthen key management or working relationships.

  • Use the DISC results to optimize talent management.

  • Recognize and work towards motivating leadership strategies.

  • Improve communication methods to reduce conflicts.

  • Build cohesive partnerships among team members with different roles.

Live-Action Leadership Coaching

A supportive, progressive style of coaching that empowers a leader through a process of coaching designed to identify, develop, and uphold new patterns of leadership. The comprehensive process gives the leader immediate feedback in a manner that perpetuates transformation, without creating dependence on the coach. This is a great intervention for creating and sustaining lasting leadership culture changes and is often included in Team development.

  1. The process starts with individual coaching, behind the scenes, to help the leader identify and develop personal leadership skills and specific growth goals.

  2. Then the leader interacts with direct reports while the coach is present so real-time learning and support can occur. The leader gains confidence in themselves, while the direct reports gain confidence in the coaching process and build trust with the leader. All members are involved in coaching during this process. It helps address specific areas of need and receive immediate support and feedback.

  3. Finally, the leader takes the reigns in the group coaching setting as the leader. Minimum feedback is given in real-time only to help “coach” the leader on how to improve interactions.
